On Saturday next, February 15th, sixth year chemistry students Ger Crowley (left))and Ehren Dixon (right))will represent St. Augustine's College at The Irish Chemistry Olympiad. This is a competition for Irish students in the final year of second level education and is held annually in Dublin City University (DCU). Students from Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland take part in the competition. A panel will be selected, and after further competition the two top students from NI and RoI will form the Irish International Chemistry Olympiad Team and represent Ireland at the IChO in Hanoi, Vietnam, in July. We wish Ger and Ehren the very best of luck next Saturday!

Dungarvan Lions Club Christmas Appeal
Congratulations to our 5th year LCVP students who raised €915 for the Dungarvan Lions Club. The monies raised were the proceeds of our “Christmas Day in The Friary” fundraiser. Many thanks also to Babs Kiely and her staff who served a delicious dinner. Thanks also to Mrs Rosaleen Curran, 5th year LCVP teacher
Christmas Fair and Cookery Demonstration. This festive fundraising event which took place in The Park Hotel last Thursday was a great success. Some delicious festive dishes were prepared by Eunice Power and later enjoyed by the audience. The night also showcased an array of seasonal products from Transition Year Mini Companies and some super prizes were won. Maurice Butler of “Butler’s Ice-Cream treated the gathering to a delicious selection of his Christmas flavoured ice-creams, which went down a real treat. Many thanks to Eunice for a most enjoyable and relaxed evening, thanks also to Róisín Lynch who assisted Eunice on the night.

Information evening, Monday, 10th February 2014
5th year Subject Choices 2014/15 and Transition Year 2014/15 Option
All parents/guardians of students entering 5th year or Transition Year in September 2014 are invited to attend an information evening which will take place on Monday, 10th February 2014 at 7:00pm in the study hall.

There will be an opportunity for questions from the floor at the end of the presentation. The meeting will close around 8.30pm.

On the 4th February Dr Maureen Griffin, forensic psychologist will visit the college to speak to all our students on the issue of internet safety.

Congratulations to Clodagh Mc Grath (Leaving Cert Class 2013) who was awarded an Entrance Scholarship to UCC on the basis of her outstanding Leaving Certificate results.
