Transition Year Students in Irish Language Art Project
A group of Transition Year students (TY4) took part this term in a project involving Waterford County Council's Irish language office and Lismore Castle Arts.
The project involved an initial visit to the gallery with their Irish language teacher Áine Uí Fhoghlú, during which they were given a presentation in English on the current exhibition entitled "Monuments" by curator Jennifer Marshall. The students had to take careful notes and return to the classroom with all the information gathered on the day. Their task was then to work together as a group and prepare to deliver the same presentation during a return visit, but this time in Irish. Waterford County Council's Irish language officer, Máire Seó Breathnach invited the active retirement group from An Rinn, Cairde na Rinne to visit the exhibition and hear the students' bilingual presentation. Each of the five artists' work was very competently interpreted by students Matthew Raher, Aoife Shanley, Ailbhe Young, Laurence Power and Julie Sheehan and all of the students in the group afterwards mingled with the Cairde na Rinne group taking them individually to the various exibits and discussing the works with them. Maith sibh go léir a ghlac páirt ann!
