The East Munster Schools Cross Country 2013.

Carriganore, the WIT Sports Campus was the venue for this year's East Munster Schools Cross Country, which was held on Thursday 24th January. Our thanks to the WIT all those involved in setting out the course, well done.

On the day, the Friary College had five teams competing in these championships and all five qualified for the “Aviva Munster Schools Cross Country Championships”, which will take place on Thursday 7th February at the CIT Sports Campus, Cork.

The Minor Girls got St. Augustine's off to a very good start, led by Emma Hallahan and closely followed by Rachel Wyley and the improving Katie Duggan-Sullivan, Aine Flynn, Lauren Dunford, and Eileen Veale; finishing respectively in 2nd, 5th, 21st, 24th, 26th and 40th. The Friary team finished second.

The Junior Girls Team took pride of place when finishing in Gold position, by packing very well with Caoimhe Dwyer 5th, Chloe Fennell, 6th, Darina Ni Sheanlaoich 8th, Bronagh Condon 9th, and Atlanta Raher 21st.

Rachel McGuckian was the “sacrificial lamb” as she had to move up from the Junior to the Intermediate to support the team which was decimated due to the school musical. Sinead Flynn who is getting back to her old self when she finish not far off the lead in 4th place and a whole hearted 11th by the girl who will never let you down, Megan Dunford , and Rachel finished 15th. The team won Silver medals.

Clodagh McGrath finished 8th in the senior girls but had no team.

The Boys minor team, had to settle for Silver having just missed out on Gold by just one point. Aidan McKenna 4th, Mick Devine 7th, Seadhna Mac Giolla Chuda 15th, David Montgomery 16th, George Wangari 18th , Dean Beresford 23rd and Ben Flynn 32nd.

Once again Micheál Power finished 1st winning the individual Gold and leading the Junior Boys team to 2nd and Silver medals. Rest of the team,
Darragh McGrath 4th , Adam Clarke 16th , Mark Twomey 30th , Oisin O'Mahony 31st, Ryan O'Neill 38th and Fionn Gibson-Kiely 43rd.

Well done to all the Friary Athletes and best of luck in the Munsters.
