Ladies Football in Munster Final

Senior Ladies Football Team cruise through to Munster Final

St Augustine's College                       2-11  Scoil Mhuire Ennistymon                   0-0

St Augustine’s travelled to Bansha to take on Ennistymon of Clare in the Senior B Munster semi final. The girls had an impressive display for the entire 60mins which ensured a convincing win for the west Waterford side. In the opening ten minutes Liz Devine had two points to her credit converting a close in free to open the score sheet and Shannon Dunford had added a point also. The play continued at a fast tempo throughout with the Friary girls dominating in all areas of the pitch. In the closing stages of the first half Molly Curran chipped in with her first of four points followed by a point from Kaeisha Tobin and a well slotted goal from Shannon Dunford. This left matters at 1-5 to 0-0 at the turnaround.

Molly scored the rest of her tally in the third quarter of the game. The Friary ladies were well and truly in-charge of proceedings at the stage shattering any chance of a score with Sarah Keohan and Caoimhe Mc Grath leading the way for the watertight defence and the entire team continuing to play with a great determination and team spirit. The closing ten minutes saw Kaeisha popping over another two points with her usual calmness and skill, Megan Dunford making unstoppable and rewarding runs scoring a point of her own and also setting up first cousin Shannon Dunford for a top drawer goal in the last minute.  St Augustine’s are now in their fourth Munster final between Junior and Senior in the last three years which is an impressive record. An even bigger achievement is that the three contested so far have been won by the Friary. This upcoming final will require a massive effort to be in with a chance and after today's display it's all to play for. Congratulations to team mentors Ms Angela Walsh and Bro Patrick Lennon OSA.
