1st Year Tour To Alton Towers

It was an early 4:30am start on Friday, May 3rd for students and teachers on this year's first year trip to Alton Towers.

1st Year Tour To Alton TowersFollowing our sailing from Dublin Port to Holyhead we made our way to the Chill Factor e in Manchester. Here the students received skiing lessons and engaged in various winter sports including sledging and lugeing in the huge indoor ski arena. From there it was onto the Trafford Centre, the largest shopping centre in Europe, where the students were given the opportunity to spend some time browsing through the hundreds of stores and to make the odd purchase. After a tiring day it was off our hotel, the four-star Thistle Haydock Hotel on Merseyside for a well earned night's rest.

Saturday brought the highlight for many; the trip to the theme park at Alton Towers. An early arrival allowed us to make the most of our day there. Rollercoasters such as "Oblivion", "Air", "Nemesis", "Thirteen" and "Rita" certainly set the adrenalin rushing while the water based rides of the "Congo River Rapids" and the "Flume" also proved popular. The large cuddly toys seen in the possession of the students throughout the day showed their adeptness at the various games and challenges around the park!!!

Following breakfast on Sunday morning we headed to Knowsley Sarafi Park. A very enjoyable paintballing session was followed by a bus trip around the vast park to see all manner of exotic creatures from buffalo to tigers and lions to meerkats. Undoubtedly the baboons, climbing on car mirrors, roofs and anything they could get their paws on, provided the greatest entertainment. Next it was off to see the sea lions performing all sorts of tricks followed by a flight demonstration from various birds of prey. After a game of bowling at the Trafford Centre it was time to catch the ferry back home. We arrived at the school in the early hours of Monday following a thoroughly exhausting yet very enjoyable trip.

The staff would like to thank and congratulate each and every student on their exemplary behaviour throughout the tour. In fact as we left our hotel on Sunday morning the staff, who were unbelievably courteous and welcoming, came onto the buses and thanked the pupils for being so well behaved, polite and friendly. Well done to one and all.
